Eligibility and Requirements

We seek applicants who demonstrate the academic achievement, integrity and motivation necessary for successful leadership in interprofessional health informatics. Applicants with varied backgrounds, including prior health care experience is beneficial, but not required.

You must meet the following requirements to be eligible for admission to the graduate certificate program in health informatics.

Bachelor's Degree

A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required and must be documented by submission of official transcript(s) indicating the degree has been conferred before beginning the program. Official transcripts from institutions attended post-baccalaureate are also required.

Students with degrees from outside the U.S. may be subject to transcript evaluation indicating the degree is equivalent to a U.S. degree and meets the minimum cumulative GPA requirements.

We do not require that applicants complete the GRE and scores from the Graduate Record Examination are not taken into consideration with your application.

Grade Point Average

A cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required on all undergraduate coursework. This must be documented by providing official transcripts to KU prior to beginning the program.

English Proficiency

Applicants who are not native speakers of English, whether domestic or international, must demonstrate they meet the minimum English proficiency requirement.

Background Check Requirement

For KU programs to maintain accreditation status, the Joint Commission requires that all persons, employees, volunteers and students involved in patient care activities to have background checks. This status is very important to health care organizations to demonstrate to patients and professionals that they meet the highest of standards for patient care.

This background check will be done at the applicant's expense after provisional acceptance has been granted. The information from this report is held in confidence by the school.

Windows/PC Laptop

You must have a computer that meets the minimum software and hardware requirements. This includes the responsibility for all costs associated with the computer including software, hardware, support, updates and maintenance.

Technical standards

Individuals admitted to the health informatics program will be asked to verify that they can meet the program technical standards with or without accommodation(s). We will make reasonable accommodations for any accepted student who has a documented disability and can meet program expectations.

International Students

Due to the number of required online courses, KU's certificate program in health informatics does not meet the U.S. student visa requirements at this time. Therefore, we are unable to accept individuals who are on student visas. If you received your university education outside of the U.S. or are in the U.S. on another type of visa, please contact him@kumc.edu for additional information.
