The Bod Pod

The centerpiece of the clinic is the Bod Pod: a highly specialized piece of equipment used to measure body composition. With precise, whole-body capabilities, it provides clients with a much more detailed picture of body composition compared with, for example, the traditional scale. By reading data such as fat percentage, total fat mass and lung volume, the Bod Pod provides detailed information about how activity and eating habits affect body composition.

man in Bod PodThe Nutrition Clinic at KU Medical Center is one of the few places offering access to a Bod Pod for the general public.

What is the Bod Pod and why is it used?

  • Safe, non-invasive, body composition assessment tool that uses air displacement technology
  • Ideally suited for frequent testing
  • Flexibility in testing special populations including young children
  • Used by the military, professional athletes, health care providers and organizations around the world
