Frequently Asked Questions
I'm a current or former KU student. Am I required to submit transcripts for KU coursework?
If you are a current or former KU student, you do not need to provide KU transcripts. Graduate admissions will upload your KU transcripts to your application after submission.
I completed prerequisite coursework at an institution separate from where I received my undergraduate degree. Are transcripts from that other institution required?
Official transcripts are only required from the institution where you completed your undergraduate degree. Unofficial transcripts are required for any additional courses, including prerequisites.
Are transcripts required if I’m currently completing my undergraduate degree?
At the time of application, request your official transcript for classes completed thus far. If you are selected for admission to the program, you will be required to provide your final, complete, official transcript before matriculation.
I took courses at another institution before transferring the credits to my undergraduate program. Are official transcripts required from the original institution?
Official transcripts are only required from the institution where you completed your undergraduate degree. Unofficial transcripts are required for all transfer credits.
I’m not sure if a prerequisite will be accepted. How do I find out if it does?
Please email us at gcprogram@kumc.edu with the following details about your course:
- Institution where the course was/is taken
- Course prefix, number and title
- Course description
The application asks for a scanned/uploaded copy of my official transcript(s). However, the website states that official transcripts need to be transmitted directly from institution to institution. Which is it?
- The official transcript sent directly from your institution is a requirement and a scanned/uploaded copy of your transcript is optional.
- As the transmission of official transcripts may be delayed, attaching a copy of your transcript(s) to your application will enable a preliminary review of your materials, allowing your application to move forward in the review process as we await the official document.
How long does it take for transcripts to arrive?
The time it takes varies, based on time of year, institution and the method of transmitting (i.e. electronic or standard mail). We recommend that you request your transcripts at least two weeks before the application deadline.
I received my undergraduate degree several years ago. Do I need to repeat my prerequisites?
Your genetics course must be taken within the last 10 years.
