Mission
The mission of the KU Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences is to provide undergraduate and graduate programs a setting where qualified students can prepare themselves for careers in the clinical laboratory sciences and molecular biotechnology. An integral part of the University of Kansas Medical Center, the department subscribes to and supports the mission of the campus and institution.
The department is to be responsive to current workforce needs in the life science and health care systems, and, when appropriate, provide leadership in developing programs to meet those needs. The department strives to provide the best possible resources for the attainment of the stated mission.

The vision of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences and its Academic Programs is to produce exemplary clinical laboratory science professionals qualified to provide safe and competent services to the public.
Clinical Laboratory Science at KU
Located at the region's premier academic health center, the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences is a part of the School of Health Professions on the medical center campus of the University of Kansas. KU Medical Center is located in the heart of the Kansas City metropolitan area at 39th and Rainbow Boulevard – about 40 minutes away from the main KU campus in Lawrence, Kansas.
Since the 1930s, the laboratory sciences program has been a pioneering spirit in the field. In 2004, KU's molecular biology concentration was one of the first two programs in the nation to receive accreditation from NAACLS. In 2019, KU became the third institution in the country to offer a Doctorate of Clinical Laboratory Science degree.
The University of Kansas Health System, which shares a campus with KU Medical Center, is the only Level I trauma center on the Kansas side of the metropolitan area.
Kansas City: A Great Midwestern City
Just one block from the Missouri-Kansas state line, KU Medical Center is near the historic Westport entertainment district and the Country Club Plaza. Known for its Spanish-style architecture and beautiful fountains, the Plaza has many shops, restaurants and theaters. Nearby is the Nelson Art Gallery.
Kansas City is also home to the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs professional sports franchises and the Kansas Speedway NASCAR race track.
