Professional Background

Stephanie L. Sturges, Ph.D., is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Prior to joining the faculty at KU Medical Center in 2022, Dr. Sturges was a therapist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she treated patients and helped train and supervise learners in the predoctoral psychology internship and postdoctoral psychology fellowship programs.

Dr. Sturges earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Kentucky, graduating with honors. She also holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in psychology from the University of Kansas. After completing her predoctoral internship in clinical psychology at Florida State University, she finished postdoctoral fellowships at Vassar College and with Counseling and Educational Support Services at KU Medical Center.

At KU Medical Center Dr. Sturges helps train and supervise psychology interns and postdoctoral fellows. As a licensed psychologist with The University of Kansas Health System, she also provides individual and group psychotherapy, crisis services and consultation. Her clinical interests include dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and group psychotherapy interventions.
