Professional Background

Dr. Liesman is a Director of Microbiology - Clinical Assistant Professor in Anatomic Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Liesman service areas cover the following: Microbiology laboratory, including the subspecialties of bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, virology, and parasitology, as well as the virology and infectious disease serology areas of the Special Chemistry laboratory.

My clinical responsibilities include consultation on microbiology testing with providers as needed, verification of quality of testing in clinical use, verification of quality and performance of testing under evaluation for clinical use, daily review of laboratory testing results with microbiology laboratory technologists, periodic review of laboratory procedures and policies, consultation with Infection Prevention and Control on outbreak, emerging, and pandemic infections (e.g., influenza virus, measles virus), development of diagnostic testing and interpretive guidelines for distribution to clinicians, and education of providers and laboratory staff on testing changes.
