Biobanking and Biomarker Validation (BBV) Core
The Biobanking and Biomarker Validation (BBV) Core combines expertise and crucial resources at the University of Kansas Medical Center. These include the Biospecimen Repository Core Facility (BRCF), the Biomarker Discovery Laboratory (BDL) and the Clinical Molecular Oncology Laboratory (CMOL).
The BBV Core provides research teams with:
- centralized and uniform collection, processing and storage of tissue and body fluids and tissue-related histology services
- integral and comprehensive protein and nucleic acid isolation, quantitation and molecular characterization services;
- fully customizable molecular testing and genomic-based sequencing services.
The BBV Core is designed to centralize essential services that will in turn provide support to the KIPM COBRE faculty, pilot grantees, and researchers within our region and beyond, in cancer and other areas of study.
The core is a cost-effective solution for many KIPM COBRE investigators. Researchers no longer need to buy added high-level research resources or develop research expertise on their own. In-kind expert staff support and biobanking resources help KIPM COBRE faculty conserve their research funds.
Core Team
The BBV Core is led by three scientists in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, with support from a dedicated staff member:
- Andrew K. Godwin, Ph.D., professor and director of molecular oncology, division director, Genomic Diagnostics and deputy director, The University of Kansas Cancer Center
- Harsh B. Pathak, Ph.D., research assistant professor and assistant director of the Biomarker Discovery Laboratory
- Stephen Hyter, Ph.D., clinical assistant professor and assistant director, Clinical Molecular Oncology Laboratory, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
