Hoglund Biomedical Imaging Center Relocation Information
The MRI scanner is currently unavailable for use, and scheduling cannot proceed until further notice.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding! Please read below for details.
In fall 2024, the KU Medical Center campus will begin to prepare for the construction of a new building to house The University of Kansas Cancer Center. To make way for the construction, Hoglund Biomedical Imaging Center will relocate to a modular building while our new, permanent location is prepared. We are working hard to minimize any potential disruptions that this move may have on our research partners.
We’ve compiled information about the project and its impacts here, but if you have any questions, we hope you’ll reach out directly hbicschedulmanager@kumc.edu. We are here to help!
Modular Building Operations- 2/14/2025
The modular building has been erected in front of Hemenway and the scanner has been moved to this building. Siemens is currently testing the scanner. The building is a compact building with rooms for consent, testing, and phlebotomy services. Other than that, space is restricted. Bathrooms are available outside the building. Hoglund personnel in the building will include a front desk person and a technologist. Please bear with us as we will have limited personnel onsite when we begin operations.
If you would like a tour of the Modular Building, please email hbicschedulemanager@kumc.edu
About Our Relocation- 1/28/2025
Swati Rane Levendovszky has started as the Director of Hoglund on 1/20. She will be remote until July but is available for meetings by zoom/teams and during her periodic in-person visits.
The Hoglund Biomedical Imaging Center relocation is underway! The modular building has arrived on campus, and the MRI scanner was successfully moved into the building. The scanner is currently being set up and undergoing preparations for testing, which is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
Due to earlier delays from the holidays and a recent snowstorm, the building will be available later than initially planned. We will open the scheduling calendar once the scanner is ready for use. Until then, we will be unable to accommodate scan requests. We appreciate your patience and will notify you at least one week in advance when participant scheduling becomes available.
If you have any questions or need further assistance in the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact us at hbicschedulemanager@kumc.edu. We request you to email us at this address instead of contacting individual HBIC members.
Minimizing Disruptions
We are committed to ensuring that all ongoing projects experience minimal disruption. We are coordinating closely with research teams to address specific study needs during the transition.
We will continue to provide updates through email, website and meetings. We encourage everyone to stay connected through these channels.
Questions and Contacts
Most contact information will remain the same when we move, but any changes will be communicated in advance. Please check our website for the most up-to-date contact information.
We understand that this transition and relocation will require adjustments, and we are happy to answer any questions you might have. Please reach out to hbicschedulmanager@kumc.edu. We will also be collecting feedback via an online form throughout this process.
Facility and Parking Information
Our modular facility will be equipped to support the needs of research teams and study participants. Our new location will offer accessibility features, restroom trailers located nearby (less than 30 feet) and free parking. All HBIC visitors will park on the top deck of the P4 Bluff parking garage, located on Rainbow Blvd. and Adams Street. The parking area is about 50 feet from our modular building. To access the garage, visitors will use the call box at the gate, and KU Medical Center Parking Services staff will lift the barrier arm to allow them in. Hoglund will cover parking costs for participants.
We will supply maps and directions to our new location after we move.
Scheduling and Support
We have notified all internal and external users of the upcoming changes to scheduling appointments or services on ILab in advance. Our goal is to maintain a seamless experience throughout the transition.
We are working with individual teams to determine if recertifications or validation is necessary. Please reach out to hbicschedulemanager@kumc.edu to determine if your study will require recertification.
We are actively engaging with The University of Kansas Health System radiology team to assess their capacity for handling studies that require relocation to the hospital. This process is being evaluated on a case-by-case basis. For any specific questions, please contact hbicschedulmanager@kumc.edu.
We are collaborating with individual teams to assess their storage needs. If you have unused supplies at HBIC, we ask that you do so as soon as possible. If you currently have supplies at HBIC and require ongoing storage, please contact us at hbicschedulmanager@kumc.edu.
