Pilot Grant for Diabetes Research

The pilot program is intended to support new and innovative research projects in basic, translational, clinical, or community-based research that broadly pertains to diabetes, diabetes complications, and cardiometabolic disease. Pilot projects should be designed to generate sufficient data as the basis for further extramural funding (e.g., R01).
Eligibility: Funding will be available to full-time University of Kansas (Lawrence, Edwards) or University of Kansas Medical Center (Kansas City, Wichita, Salina) faculty.

Summer Research Fellowship

This initiative is to develop or enhance research training opportunities for students interested in careers in biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research. The primary goal fellowship is to provide short-term training for medical students to obtain necessary diabetes, metabolism, and genetics research experience and technical expertise to encourage them to pursue careers in research.
Eligibility: Medical students in their first or second year at the University of Kansas School of Medicine (Kansas City, Wichita, or Salina). Students should first identify a faculty member who has a research project in their field of interest to serve as a mentor. The student and faculty member should work together to complete and submit the application.

Travel Award for Professional Development

The award helps to support travel to the American Diabetes Association Scientific Meeting. The DI will also consider applications to other career development conferences or workshops related to diabetes.
Eligibility: Funding will be available to all University of Kansas Medical Center (Kansas City, Wichita, Salina) faculty, clinicians, fellows, or trainees. The primary intent of the award is to support the professional development of junior investigators, but applications will be accepted from those at all career levels. Preference will be given to those with accepted abstracts for presentation.
