Community Outreach

Our community is at the core of our work at the KU Diabetes Institute. Our team works closely with university and regional partners to engage underserved populations in Wyandotte County and beyond to increase awareness for prediabetes and diabetes.

The driving force behind our outreach is the desire to ensure that our research population accurately represents our local demographics.

To move this work forward, we have the pleasure of partnering with organizations across Kansas City and the state of Kansas, including:

  • KU Cancer Health Equity Taskforce,
  • Wyandotte County Health Equity Taskforce,
  • UMKC Community Discussion on Diabetes Prevention,
  • KDHE Diabetes Programs,
  • Sunflower Health Plan, and others

If you’re interested in learning more, please get in touch or join us at an upcoming event!

A1c Screening Events

Diabetes Institute A1c screening event participant with clinician

Our recurring A1c screening events focus on raising awareness of and screening for prediabetes in Wyandotte County and the entire KC Metro to promote diabetes health knowledge. These events help us work directly with individuals who may need information or health care resources, such as services provided by Cray Diabetes Self-Management Center or the research opportunities at the KU Diabetes Institute.
