Join the MS Achievement Center
MSAC membership enables you to visit the center once a week to focus on fitness, physical and occupational therapy, cognitive stimulation, education and recreation. The program lasts from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and takes place in a group setting, allowing for a greater sense of community and emotional support. Members form groups of 6-8 and rotate through activities together. Participation in the KU MSAC is based on availability of space, appropriateness of fit and eligibility criteria. The following information is provided to help you determine if this program might be a good option for you or your loved one.
Member profile:
- Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and at least 18 years of age
- Physical or cognitive disability that limits daily activities or work
- Able to communicate basic daily needs: thirst, hunger, pain, toileting needs
- Willing and able to participate and engage in all aspects of the program
- Free of uncontrolled wandering
- Someone who conducts themselves in a respectful manner
- Committed to regular attendance
- Compliant with MS Achievement Center Member Handbook
- Reliable transportation to allow regular attendance
- Have a plan for managing bowel and bladder continence during the program
Challenges we would address with the support of the member and family:
- Medication management
- Dietary restrictions
- History of violence to self or others
Conditions that would prohibit participation in the program:
- Communicable diseases requiring isolation
