MS Achievement Center
Together, we can achieve more!
The MS Achievement Center exists to enhance the quality of life for people with progressed multiple sclerosis (MS). We accomplish this by providing a comprehensive program of physical rehabilitation, psychological support, social activities and health education for members and their families. The program helps participants optimize their ability, move toward acceptance of their limitations and take charge of their own lives. Our goal is for participants to live to their fullest potential.
We offer wellness and rehabilitation programs for individuals with progressed MS that translate the latest in MS rehabilitation research into practice. Before KU MS Achievement Center, there were very few options for individuals with MS that addressed the psychological and social challenges of their illness. Our healthcare professionals develop and deliver innovative programs to serve this need. Established in 1995 in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Institute, KU MS Achievement Center offers physical, occupational and recreational therapy, case management and emotional support groups. We provide practical and rehabilitative therapy to help improve spirit and independence. KU MS Achievement Center is one of only a handful of similar programs in the United States and the only program in the Midwest.
What We Do
KU MS Achievement Center was built on the idea of complete care. Membership enables you to focus on fitness, physical and occupational therapy, cognitive stimulation, education and recreation, while also having access to a neurologist, physical and occupational therapist and social worker. This translates into quality care and community.
Members come to the Achievement Center for five hours, one day each week. We focus on fitness, physical therapy, cognitive stimulation, occupational therapy, emotional support, education, recreation and connection. Members bring their lunch and spend the hour catching up with each other. All services are offered in a group of 6 to 8 members who rotate through activities together. This format builds connection and support among members and gives the opportunity to do targeted work, which is less costly than private therapy.
