Stefanie Estes, M.L.S. reviews "Namaste is a Greeting" by Suma Subramaniam, illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat
Namaste is a Greeting by Suma Subramaniam, illustrated by Sandhya Prabhat
Age Range: 3-8 years
In Namaste is a Greeting author, Suma Subramaniam and illustrator, Sandhya Prabhat, share their culture beautifully through defining this one word with many meanings. Namaste is a particularly apropos word in greeting the new year. Subramaniam writes, “Namaste is peace. It’s a light, a path when the road is unclear. Say namaste and be still. Or do something nice.” As the text describes the meaning of namaste, the richly colored illustrations tell a separate story. The reader follows a young girl as she gently befriends an older neighbor she has noticed through her apartment window. Namaste is a feel-good book that allows its readers to bask in mindfulness and the sweeter side of the human experience. I highly recommend enjoying this short story time by Little Ms Rivett with your family today. Namaste 2025!
