About the University of Kansas Police Department
- The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training program, a self-defense training class for women, has been suspended due to campus, local government, and statewide mandates for social distancing and group gathering regulations. Please submit an email request to email@example.com to be added to the RAD group email to receive notifications for future classes once these regulations have been relaxed.
The primary mission of the University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department is to promote a safe environment conducive to education, research, health care, and employment. The accomplishment of this goal requires the concerted effort of every professional found within the University Police Department. Whether or not you ever need the direct services offered by the department, this goal is being conscientiously pursued on your behalf.
The University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and is one of only seven Kansas law enforcement agencies and the state's first and only university police department to earn "the gold standard in public safety."
Our departmental vision is to operate with the highest standards of excellence and intergrity in all areas.
Message from Chief Johnson
The University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department has a rich history of serving the University of Kansas Medical Center and The University of Kansas Hospital. As part of our core values and guiding principles, we place the highest reverence on the value of human life and are committed to conducting ourselves in a manner that will instill public confidence and trust in our services and integrity. Our sole purpose is to benefit and serve our students, employees, patients and visitors on the KU Medical Center campus.
The University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department operates around the clock each day of the year and responds to all reports of crimes that occur on campus and other properties owned and operated by the University of Kansas. The police department is the point of origin for all emergency services as well as a variety of university services after normal business hours. My commitment to you is to provide a professional police department staffed and equipped to serve this community. In return, I ask that you consider what you can do to protect yourself and your property by taking advantage of our services and following our safety tips provided on this website.
