What is the Clery Act?
Signed into law in 1990, the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to disclose information about campus crime activity and security policies in an annual report. The Clery Act also requires that campuses make "timely warnings" to campus community members about specific types of criminal activity when an ongoing threat to persons is believed to exist.
All post-secondary public and private institutions participating in federal student aid programs must adhere to Clery regulations.
In case of an emergency, call 911 from landlines or 913-588-5030 from cell phones to reach KU Medical Center Police to report criminal incidents or emergencies on campus, including fire, ambulance and rescue services. All employees and students are also encouraged to download the Rave Guardian phone app.
The University of Kansas Medical Center works in conjunction with the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers program to encourage the anonymous reporting of crime-related activity. Rewards are given when the information leads to an arrest and the filing of criminal charges. KU Medical Center Police detectives or patrol officers will investigate information on criminal activity received through confidential informants or third party reporting. You may anonymously report a crime to Crime Stoppers in one of the following ways:
- Web Tips: www.KCCrimeStoppers.com
- Tips Hotline: 816-474-8477
- Text Tips: Text "TIP452" plus your message to CRIMES (274637)
If you are not comfortable identifying yourself, the KU Medical Center Police Department also offers anonymous reporting by use of its contact us form. Tips are reviewed by police command staff and, if appropriate, investigated by detectives.
