Police Department Accreditation
University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department CALEA Assessment
The University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department underwent an assessment during the fall of 2021 as part of its goal of re-accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This volunteer process by the department for CALEA accreditation is undertaken to ensure the University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department continues to follow the most current and best practices within the profession of law enforcement.
The CALEA's Accreditation program maintains a body of standards that agencies must comply with to be awarded. A team of assessors from CALEA examined all aspects of the department policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services during their assessment.
As part of the assessment, agency employees, members of the university and hospital, as well as individuals of the community were invited to offer comments to the CALEA assessment team.
The University of Kansas Medical Center Police Department achieved re-accreditation and received the award at a CALEA conference in the spring of 2022.
