Punita Dhawan, Ph.D.

Professional Background

Dr. Punita Dhawan, PhD, is a Professor of Surgery and Director, Oncologic Research for the Department of Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Dhawan completed her PhD from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. After that she joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center for her post-doctoral training and soon rose to the rank of Assistant Professor. In 2014, she joined University of Nebraska Medical Center as an Associate Professor and was promoted to tenured Professor in 2022. Dr. Dhawan joined our faculty in 2025 and currently serves as the Director, Oncologic Research for the Department of Surgery.
