Professional Background
Nicole Klaus, Ph.D. is a board certified child and adolescent psychologist who has been practicing at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita since 2008. She is committed to training and increasing access to mental health care for youth across the state. She developed and directs the child psychology training program at KUSM-W, which includes trainees from practicum through post-doctoral fellowship level. Teaching experience includes didactic presentations and clinical supervision for psychology students, medical students, and psychiatry residents on evidence-based assessment and intervention skills related to child/adolescent mental health.
While her clinical practice serves a broad range of child mental health needs, Dr. Klaus has specific interests in youth suicide prevention and the treatment of childhood mood disorders.

Research
Overview
Dr. Klaus serves as Associate Director of School Based Health, which provides a rural integrated training site for trainees and opportunities to extend evidence-based behavioral health services to children in their local school and community. She is a co-investigator for the KSKidsMAP Pediatric Mental Health Care Access project, which provides consultation and continuing education for primary care providers across Kansas to address the mental health care needs of youth in rural and underserved communities. She is the Project Director for a HRSA BHWET-PRO grant which funds the Kansas Experts for Youth: Specialist Training and Education for Psychiatric Success (KEY STEPS) program to educate leaders in mental health care for Kansas.
