Professional Background

After graduating from The Ohio State University with a degree in Economics, Megan worked in the marketing field for a few years before deciding to pursue a career in medicine. In 2007, she graduated from Chapman University with a Bachelor's in Biochemistry. Her medical degree was from Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. She attended residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and fellowship at MetroHealth Medical Center. After working in Cincinnati for 3 years, she has decided to join the University of Kansas to further her career in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

She has worked to develop both outpatient and inpatient screening guidelines to screen patients for perinatal mental health disorders, helped develop a perinatal mental health clinic and improve the access to care providers who view the patient as a whole person both mentally and physically. She prides herself in providing excellent, unparalleled patient care. Developing a lasting relationship with her patients is extremely important to her and the care she provides her patients. Having been on the patient side with her oldest daughter, it has allowed her to truly understand how confidence in your medical care team is extremely important.

Research

Overview

Dr. Thomas works to improve perinatal mental health in her clinical population. A focus on causes of perinatal mental health as well as interventions that can be utilized to improve the outcomes of both the woman and her child is a large focus of her research.
