Professional Background
Dr. Michael Porter, MD, FACS, FASCRS, is an Associate Professor of Surgery and is the Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Kansas - Wichita. He was born and raised in Kansas. Dr. Porter attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas followed by The University of Kansas Medical School. He completed his general surgical residency in Wichita, then a colon and rectal fellowship at the Ferguson Clinic in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dr. Porter returned to practice in Wichita in 1991 and joined our faculty. He has been the general surgery residency program director since 2016.
Dr. Porter is married with 3 children and 14 grandchildren. He has many hobbies including playing trombone in jazz bands, orchestra, and concert bands. He enjoys running marathons and will talk endlessly about running if allowed.
