Professional Background
Mark C. Meyer, MD, FAAFP, DABFM, is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He holds the Alice M. Patterson, MD, and Harold L. Patterson, MD, Professorship and is currently serving as Interim Chair of the Department. Dr. Meyer also serves as the senior associate dean of student affairs in the school of medicine. He has served in multiple academic leadership roles, including residency program director, associate dean for student affairs, and his current roles as senior associate dean of student affairs and executive director of the academic societies program. A native Kansan, Dr. Meyer earned his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University, his MD degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, and completed his family medicine residency training at KUMC.
An accomplished educator, administrator, and clinician, Dr. Meyer has been deeply involved in medical student and resident education since 1992. He has directed and taught across a wide range of programs, including the Family Medicine Clerkship, Family Medicine Residency Program, clinical skills courses, and professionalism seminars. His work has helped shape curriculum development and faculty mentoring at both the departmental and institutional levels. He has received numerous awards for teaching and service. Dr. Meyer is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism in Medicine Honor Societies.
Dr. Meyer is a board-certified family physician, fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Meyer has also completed advanced leadership training through the AMA, AAMC, and AAFP. Dr. Meyer currently serves on the Kansas Medical Society Board of Trustees and the American Medical Association Academic Physicians Governing Council, where he previously served as chair and now holds the position of delegate. In 2025, he was elected to the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Council and to the NBME Advisory Committee for Medical School Programs.
Dr. Meyer’s career reflects a commitment to patient care, personal and professional development of learners, service, and the advancement of family medicine education.
