Professional Background

Mary Koehn, PhD, APRN, CHSE is an Education Associate Professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita where she works with simulation, interprofessional education, and curriculum development. Prior to working at KU, she served for 26 years in both faculty and administrative roles at Wichita State University College of Health Professions. Dr. Koehn’s formal education includes a Diploma in Nursing from Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing; a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Nursing, both from Wichita State University; and a PhD in Nursing from the University of Kansas. She has also completed courses in leadership development and coaching at the Kansas Leadership Center along with completing the Harvard Kennedy School of Executive Education program in The Art and Practice of Leadership Development. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and has presented and facilitated simulation workshops nationally and internationally. Dr. Koehn also presents on the use of Motivational Interviewing for promoting and facilitating health behavior change.
