Professional Background

Monica Kragenbrink, Ph.D., is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Kragenbrink joined the faculty in March 2022 after working in private practice. In addition to teaching and mentoring psychology and psychiatry trainees at KU Medical Center, she assesses and treats patients with pain disorders at The University of Kansas Health System’s Comprehensive Spine Center. She also provides team-based care in the psychiatry clinic, including with the Psychological Evaluations for Medical Interventions (PEMI) team.

Dr. Kragenbrink earned a doctorate in clinical psychology with a behavioral medicine specialization from Ohio State University, then completed a clinical internship at the University of Washington School of Medicine and postdoctoral clinical fellowship at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. She also holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Kragenbrink’s clinical interests include psychological treatments for chronic pain and chronic disease management, as well as treatments that target emotion regulation more broadly. Dr. Kragenbrink is credited with multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and edited books, and she has presented posters at numerous national conferences.

Dr. Kragenbrink is a licensed psychologist in Kansas and Missouri. She is also a member of the American Psychological Association.
