Professional Background
Dr. Melissa Huggins, a native of Kansas City, attended the University of Kansas for her undergraduate and medical school education. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology in Northern California at Kaiser Permanente, Santa Clara. During her residency, she was awarded the Stanford Medical Student Teaching Award and was selected as a Felix Rutledge Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Huggins completed her three-year urogynecology fellowship training at the Ostergard Female Urology and Gynecology Partnership at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in Southern California. Following completion of her training in 2005, she was an assistant clinical professor at the University of California - Irvine and the University of Illinois where she was involved in fellowship, resident and medical student education.
Dr. Huggins has received acknowledgement for her patient-centric care, strongly motivated by her desire to maximally restore quality of life to her patients. She returned home to Kansas City to join the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Kansas. She treats a broad range of pelvic floor disorders including pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, voiding and pelvic floor dysfunction, painful bladder syndrome, chronic cystitis and bowel incontinence.
