Professional Background

Dr. Matthew R. Danter is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and the Surgical Director of Cardiac Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support. He specializes in general adult cardiac surgery with a subspecialty in advanced heart failure surgery including high risk adult surgery, left ventricular assist device implantation and cardiac transplantation.

Dr. Danter is the token Canadian in the group. He obtained his undergraduate and medical school education at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario Canada. He then completed 6 years of cardiac surgical residency at the University of Alberta, and subsequently did two additional years of fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure surgery at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Danter was recruited to Vanderbilt University in 2014 to aide in the expansion of their heart failure surgery program and was recruited to The University of Kansas in 2019. He is a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung transplantation, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
