Professional Background

A KU alumna, Mary-Kate Rush, MHSA, RHIA, returned to the Department of Health Information Management in June 2024 to serve as clinical assistant professor. She teaches courses including HEIM 401 Introduction to Health Information Management, HEIM 540 Health Information Systems, HEIM 567 Quality andamp; Process Improvement in Health Care, HEIM 585 Health Care Reimbursement, and HEIM 671 Leadership in Health Care.

Rush previously managed the patient identity and document management teams for The University of Kansas Health System. Before that she held positions in health information management at Kansas City VA Medical Center. Rush earned a master's degree in health services administration in 2020 and bachelor's degree in health information management in 2019, both from the University of Kansas. In addition, she has served on the board of directors for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 Missouri Health Information Management Association.
