Ken Wainwright, M.S., LAT, ATC, joined the Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training in 2024. He currently serves as clinical assistant professor and is director of clinical education for the master's degree program in athletic training. Wainwright teaches courses in integrated clinical education, interventions, evaluation and management, and clinical experience; he is also responsible for placing students at clinical sites.
Wainwright brings more than 25 years of experience in clinical practice to the program, having worked at the Division I level of NCAA college athletics – the last two decades having served with Kansas Team Health in providing sports medical care to KU's baseball program.
After completing a bachelor's degree in physical education at the University of Nevada, Reno, Nevada, Wainwright earned a master's degree in exercise and movement science from the University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon.
As part of the National Football League's player health and safety initiative, Wainwright has served for years as a medical observer for home games of the Kansas City Chiefs professional football team.
