Professional Background
Dr. Kurt Schropp, MD, FAAP, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Division Chief of the General and Pediatric Surgery Division at the Department of surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Schropp attended Creighton University, followed by Creighton University Medical School. His general surgical residency was completed at the Ohio State University Hospitals, then a pediatric surgery residency at Columbus Children's Hospital. Dr. Schropp went into practice for the first twelve years in Memphis, Tennessee, where he practiced at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the LeBonheur Children's Hospital. In 2002, he joined our faculty and was the general surgery residency program director from late 2004 to the end of September 2024.
Dr. Schropp is married with three daughters, two sons-in-law, and two grandchildren. He has many hobbies, including being a "handyman," running, biking, water, and snow skiing. Dr. Schropp also has a pilot's license that he doesn't use often and also loves SCUBA diving.
