Professional Background

K. James Kallail, Ph.D. is Associate Dean for Research for the KU School of Medicine-Wichita and Professor and Associate Chair for Research in the Department of Internal Medicine. He directs the Honors and Enrichment program for medical students. He joined KUSM-W in 1987 in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. In previous roles, he served as Associate Director of the defunct Office of Primary Care, Director of Medical Education Outreach for the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, and Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine residency program. Dr. Kallail played a leadership role in obtaining over $20 million of funded training, demonstration, research, and evaluation projects. His experience includes a variety of federal, state, and private foundation grants. He was a Kansas Health Foundation Fellow. Dr. Kallail has Bachelor and Master degrees from Wichita State University and a PhD from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
