Kay A. Folck, MHA, RHIA
Kay Folck, MHA, RHIA, has an extensive health information management background spanning more than 25 years. She has experience in traditional acute care health information management including utilization and risk management and IT implementation. Folck also served in practice management with operational responsibilities for human resources, supply chain, accounts receivable and finances.
Following a brief stint as a legal assistant, Folck returned to health care, working in information technology with software design, implementation, sales, and marketing both domestically and internationally. Her most recent years have been spent in academia teaching health information management at both the community college and major university levels.
Folck has a master's degree in health care administration from Park University, Parkville, Mo. She received her bachelor's degree in health record administration from Texas Woman's University. Additionally, she holds advanced health IT certifications as a certified professional in electronic health records and certified professional in health information technology.
Active in local, state, and national professional organizations of health information management, Folck has served as past president of the Texas Health Information Management Association, this after serving years in the Fort Worth, Texas, association. During her tenure in TxHIMA she testified before a state of Texas legislative subcommittee on Medicaid regarding coverage of neonatal conditions.
Since relocating to Missouri, Folck has been active in the Kansas City Health Information Management Association and currently serves as its president. She also serves on the scholarship committee of the Missouri Health Information Management Association and the association's ICD-10 taskforce.
Folck has co-presented at state meetings on ICD-10 and formerly served as an AHIMA-approved ICD-10 Trainer. She has served on both the AHIMA Research Committee and the original Defining the Legal Health Record taskforce. In 2012, Kay was recognized as MoHIMA’s Outstanding Educator of Year and in 2018 was chosen by the American Health Information Management Association to be the recipient of the Mentor Triumph Award.
