Professional Background
John Paul Schroeppel, MD, FAOA, FAAOS is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. He completed a bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas in human biology and chemistry. He continued to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City where he attended medical school, and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery. After completing an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship in Minneapolis at TRIA Orthopedic Center, working as an assistant team physician for multiple professional teams including the Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Timberwolves, he returned to Kansas City in 2013 to join the staff as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He has since been promoted to Associate Professor. He now serves as Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon for the Kansas City Chiefs, Assistant Team Physician to the Kansas City Royals, and assists in the sports medicine care of four area high schools. He serves on the executive board of the Kansas Orthopedic Society. His surgical interests include arthroscopic management of injuries to the hip, knee, and shoulder, with particular focus on hip preservation surgery, and complex knee reconstruction and cartilage restoration procedures. He is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery, with a subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine.
