Dr. Jill Hamilton-Reeves is board certified in oncology nutrition with doctoral training in translational and clinical nutrition science. She teaches in the graduate programs in the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition. Her primary course is DN 884 Diet, Physical Activity, and Cancer. She also provides nutrition-focused lectures to first-year students in the School of Medicine's MD core curriculum, including CORE 815 Cardiopulmonary, CORE 820 Gastrointestinal, and CORE 825 Renal and Endocrine. Dr. Hamilton-Reeves holds joint appointments at KU including internal medicine, hematology/oncology and urology, urologic oncology.
Dr. Hamilton-Reeves is an associate member of the Cancer Prevention Program in the University of Kansas Cancer Center. She has practiced as a registered dietitian since 2004 and has been an NSCA-certified personal trainer since 1999. She is Board-Certified as a Specialist in Oncology Nutrition. For more than 15 years, she has delivered engaging and interactive presentations to academic and community audiences about healthy lifestyles and chronic disease prevention.
Her research is focused on nutrition and cancer prevention, management, and survivorship, with specific attention on genitourinary cancers. Her lab is actively engaged in several significant research projects and aims to create discoveries to help the health of our community, where they are working to improve radical cystectomy surgery outcomes in bladder cancer patients through oral nutrition support. In a separate project, Dr. Hamilton-Reeves is evaluating the role of weight control on prostatectomy outcomes in prostate cancer patients. Her nutrition and cancer trials focus primarily on cancer-related outcomes in the immune system and inflammation response.
