Professional Background

Jessica Everritt Gay, PhD, RNC-MNN, CNE is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center, joining the faculty in 2012. She teaches courses in both the traditional BSN program and at the graduate level in the Health Professions Educator Certificate program. Dr. Gay received her BSN from the University of Louisiana Monroe, MSN in Nursing Education from the University of Texas, and PhD in Nursing Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Her research interests include conceptual teaching and learning, metacognitive tools for learning, and neurocognitive strategies for learning. Dr. Gay’s clinical background includes over 20 years as a staff nurse in Labor and Delivery, Newborn Nursery, Mother Baby, and Medical-Surgical units at hospitals in Louisiana, Arizona, Texas, and Kansas. Dr. Gay has also served as Perinatal Bereavement Educator and Program Coordinator and Perinatal Outreach Educator in hospitals in Texas, Kansas, and Missouri. Currently, Professor Gay serves as faculty advisor for the KU chapter of NSNA (The National Student Nurses Association), also known as KUSNA. She also continues to work at the bedside as a staff RN in a busy Mother Baby unit at a local birth center.
