Professional Background

Jessica Brunsman joined the University of Kansas School of Nursing faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2022. She teaches courses across programs, including the traditional BSN program and graduate programs, and she is the Undergraduate Program Director. Jessica earned her BSN in 2007 from St. Luke’s College of Nursing, her MSN with an Educator Focus from Webster University in 2013, and her DNP in Educational Leadership from American Sentinel University in 2021. Jessica has taught pre-licensure students in the Kansas City area since 2013. Jessica’s specialty in nursing is pediatrics, and she remains current in practice at Children’s Mercy Hospital, where she has worked since 2003, first as a tech and then as a nurse. She earned her Pediatric Nurse certification (CPN) in 2009 and is Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified. She is a member of the Society of Pediatric Nurses both nationally and locally. Her research has included utilizing simulation to refresh knowledge after prolonged breaks and to increase confidence in performing clinical activities. Jessica’s aspiration in nursing education is to prepare new graduate nurses for practice and welcome them into the profession as peers. She is passionate about active learning strategies, mentorship for all nurses, establishing interprofessional relationships throughout the community, mutual respect in the learning environment, and an ongoing support for the nursing profession through her passion, practice, and expertise.
