Professional Background
Josie Zimmerman Bell, DNAP, MHS, CRNA, is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Nurse Anesthesia Education with more than 30 years of diverse experience in private practice, academic health care and global health. She has participated in numerous short-term surgical service missions to Gulu, Uganda, and Bhopal, India, in addition to various locations in Guatemala.

Academic Background
Zimmerman Bell earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1983. In 1990, she completed a master’s degree in health science through the Anesthesiology for Army Nurse Corps Officers Program, graduating with honors. She received her doctorate in nurse anesthesia practice from Connecticut State University in 2020, where she was honored with the David DeNuccio Award for Graduate Student Achievement in Biological Sciences. That same year, she joined the Department of Nurse Anesthesia Education.

Clinical and Academic Focus
In the nurse anesthesia practice degree program, Zimmerman Bell teaches junior- and senior-level advanced theory courses, junior-level evidence-based research courses and a health care policy class. Her academic interests include global health outcomes, reflecting her dedication to clinical excellence and advancing healthcare internationally.
