Professional Background
Dr. John Ashcraft, DO, FACS, FASCRS, is an Associate Professor of Surgery, the Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Division Chief of Colorectal surgery and surgical oncology, Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency, and Vice Chair for Quality and Safety for the Department of Surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Ashcraft received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduation, he fulfilled an internship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Ashcraft then went on to complete his General Surgical training at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Ashcraft entered general surgery practice as part of the Emergency General Surgery Service at the University of Kansas Medical Center. After three years of practice specializing in emergency, minimally invasive, and outpatient surgeries, he entered fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery. Fellowship training from The University of Tennessee focused in-depth instruction for management of a vast array of colon and rectal diseases.
In 2003, Dr. Ashcraft joined our faculty and has since become the Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery. His clinical interests are focused on colon and rectal cancer, benign colon and rectal diseases, anorectal pathology, and minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Ashcraft is also the Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency.
