The KU Medical Center Area Health Education Center (AHEC) enhances the quality and accessibility of health care services in Kansas through partnerships with communities, health care professionals and organizations, educational institutions, and other interested individuals and agencies. The AHEC focuses on providing interprofessional education opportunities in rural Kansas. Additionally, the AHEC provides opportunities to introduce rural Kansas students to various health careers.
Our services include:
- Promotion of careers in the health care field
- Continuing education programming for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals
- Community education and health screenings
- Facilitating health research in the same communities confronting those issues
- Development and implementation of clinical opportunities for students in the health professions programs.
With three offices located across Kansas, the KU Medical Center Area Health Education Center works to ensure all Kansans enjoy these services, whether they live in the state's most rural communities or the largest metropolitan areas.
Joint Accreditation
KU Area Health Education Center is accredited by the Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education. Joint Accreditation establishes the standards for interprofessional continuing education and is awarded to entities that have met rigorous standards for educational quality and demonstrated compliance with the standards by the co-founding accreditors — the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) — on behalf of the collaborating accreditors.
