Health Professions, Nursing and Medical Students
Below is a list of professional, internship and fellowship opportunities for students in our schools of health professions, medicine and nursing.
Provides free, comprehensive health care and education to students at Wyandotte High School. It utilizes high school student volunteers, many who are interested in pursuing health care careers. The opportunity is open to internal medicine students.
Provides opportunities for medical students to volunteer with chronically ill pediatric patients in the hospital. This is open to medical students.
Internal Medicine Residency Program
This residency program is committed to helping you achieve your career goals, whether in the practice of Internal Medicine or a subspecialty. The program includes comprehensive and longitudinal direction and guidance from the beginning of your post-graduate training.
The clinic is completely run by volunteers and serves the people of the Greater Kansas City area. The opportunity is available to undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines, as well as health professionals.
Kansas Medical Student Loan Program (KMSL)
The loan is awarded on an annual basis, in return for agreements to practice medicine in Kansas after residency. This is open to primary care and psychiatry students.
Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND)
Training provides graduate and postgraduate-level professionals from a variety of disciplines the necessary preparation for becoming future leaders in the field of developmental disabilities for the improvement of the health of infants, children and adolescents with disabilities.
The MEDPATH Program is a twelve-month, post-baccalaureate academic program designed to strengthen the biological and social sciences foundation of students preparing for careers in medicine. As a result of the successful completion of the program with a 3.25 G.P.A., each participant will gain conditional admission and matriculate into the University of Kansas School of Medicine the following fall.
Nursing Pathway Program (School of Nursing)
This program introduces nursing to high school students in under-resourced schools and provides encouragement during their entire nursing education journey. High School Students
A six-week, intensive, invitation-only academic program designed to provide entering KU Medical Center School of Medicine medical students from underrepresented and/or disadvantaged backgrounds with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the first-year curriculum.

Residency and Fellowship Programs
The University of Kansas School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education Office oversees this list of programs. This is open to medical residents and fellows.
Allows fourth-year medical students the opportunity to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills of a generalist physician acquired during the third-year clerkships.
School of Health Professions Virtual Information Sessions
Learn more about the degree programs offered by the School of Health Professions on the University of Kansas Medical Center campus. The need for trained specialists has increased tremendously as the scope of health care delivery systems has broadened, with many opportunities beyond those careers typically represented in mainstream media. A booming health care industry will continue for the foreseeable future, meaning we also will need to provide extended, transitional, and community-based health services to more Kansans. These roles come with excellent pay, career mobility and job security and you’ll be helping others! The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts need for qualified health care workers will increase by at least 15 percent by 2029 in the areas where our graduates will be employed.
Additional Info: These sessions are typically offered twice a month, in the evenings starting at 6:30 pm.
Designed to identify and encourage undergraduate students from rural Kansas who are interested in building successful careers as physicians in rural areas.
Summer Training Option for Rural Medicine (STORM)
Offered to students between their first and second years of medical school. Students learn clinical medicine with a community physician in primary care.
VSLO Application Service (VSAS) and Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO)
VSAS/VSLO Elective 1 or 2 of the eligible rotation. This is intended for external or visiting medical students.
