Health Science Enrichment Institute, School of Medicine: The Health Science Enrichment Institute (HSEI) five-week summer program offers additional instruction and exposure to various science courses and personal development topics.

Pre-Matriculation Program, Medical School: A six-week intensive academic program designed to provide entering medical students with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the first-year curriculum.

KU School of Medicine Premedical Student Conference: Kansas physicians, scientists, advisors, and potential medical students come together for this one-day conference. Discussions include the MCAT and applying to medical school, tips for successful admissions interviews and question-and-answer sessions with physicians and medical students.

KU School of Medicine Primary Care Workshop: In this one-day workshop, students will participate in a physician-led Problem-Based Learning (PBL) group that illustrates a clinical office visit and in breakout sessions that provide individualized learning about suturing and aspects of the physical exam.
Who: College sophomore standing, permanent Kansas resident or student attending a Kansas college or university, 3.25 GPA

KU School of Medicine Scholars in Health: The Scholars in Health program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine aims to identify and support undergraduate students from rural and urban Kansas who are interested in pursuing careers as physicians in these communities. During the junior and senior undergraduate years, program participants will earn 100 hours of shadowing under an assigned mentor in a rural or urban setting (ideally near the participant’s home base). Upon successful completion of program requirements and KU School of Medicine requirements, Scholars in Health program participants receive guaranteed admission to the next entering medical class after undergraduate graduation.

Nurse Academy: A one-day program introducing high school and college-aged students to the profession of nursing. Students will practice hands-on nursing skills, learn about different fields within nursing, and tour several different patient care delivery areas in the hospital.

Careers in Clinical Research Program (C-CLEAR) is a summer program that introduces college students to the exciting world of clinical research. Frontiers Clinical and Translational Science Institute: Opportunities for students to tour Children’s Mercy Research Institute and the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Clinical and Translational Science Unit at the Fairway campus to learn more about research and possible careers. Meet with researchers to learn about their work. There is also an opportunity for students to attend Frontiers Annual Research Symposium to learn about research, network with researchers and support staff, and more.
