Empowering Future Health Care Leaders

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is offering two events introducing Kansas high school students to careers in health care.

Kansas students with dreams of thriving in the dynamic world of health care need look no further than the KU Medical Center Area Health Education Center (AHEC). This esteemed institution is paving the way for aspiring health care professionals with two extraordinary programs — Women in Health Care and Journeys & Destinations. These initiatives are not merely events; they are transformative experiences designed to inspire, educate and empower the health care leaders of tomorrow.

High school girls in a classroom settingAspiring young women with a passion for health care can seize an extraordinary opportunity this fall during the annual Women in Health Care program, taking place from Nov. 8 to 10, 2023. Hosted by the AHEC, this three-day event is designed to inspire and guide 14-16 high school junior and senior female students from Kansas who have demonstrated a strong interest and commitment to health care careers. This life-changing experience offers students a chance to immerse themselves in the world of health care, providing insights, mentorship and connections that can shape their future careers.

What sets Women in Health Care apart is its commitment to making this opportunity accessible to all selected students. Those chosen to participate will receive transportation, hotel accommodations and meals — all provided at no cost to the students. It's a commitment to leveling the playing field and ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder promising talent in the health care sector.

Although registration is closed for this year’s event, additional programs remain open to interested students.
