Blackboard Training and Development Manager (TDM)

TDM Overview

Blackboard Training and Development Manager (TDM) is a new Learning Management System (LMS) that allows instructors to offer non-credit courses to both KUMC employees as well as external learners, including the option to offer these courses for free or to charge learners to enroll. With TDM instructors can offer fully online, self-paced courses. Instructors will complete the TDM Request Form which will facilitate the creation of the new course in the TDM environment. TDM courses can be taken by those with existing KUMC accounts, or external users will be able to create their own TDM accounts.

TDM Fee Structure

In order to help support the system, there will be fees associated with the use of Blackboard TDM. The fee structure is as follows:

  • Instructors requesting a new TDM course will be charged a $250 flat fee. This fee will apply to each individual course offering. For example, if the course is offered in the spring and again in the fall, the $250 charge will apply to both offerings. This fee will be charged to the sponsoring department through Workday. This fee will apply regardless of whether the course is charging an enrollment fee to participants.
  • If there is a fee being charged to learners enrolling in the course, an additional fee will apply. This fee will help cover the cost of the payment processing. This fee will be $2 per course participant. For example, if the course has 50 enrolled learners, the sponsoring department will be billed $100 at the conclusion of the registration process.

TDM Support

Teaching & Learning Technologies (TLT) provides an initial project consultation and tier-1 system-level support for Blackboard TDM, escalating incidents as needed. TLT will direct all content or course-related questions from learners to the designated course contacts.

For customers that need additional help designing, creating, or maintaining their TDM course, TLT also offers instructional design and content management services. These services are optional and the rate is $47/hour.

Blackboard TDM Course Fee Billing Requirements and Deposit Information

If a course fee will be charged, the following will be needed:

Questions should be emailed to controlandreporting@kumc.edu in the Accounting & Financial Reporting Office.

Once an RSC cost center or RSC program worktag is obtained and the rate has been calculated, provide the information listed on the TDM Request form.

  • Cost Center to receive course fee revenue
  • Fund Type
  • NACUBO Function
  • The name of the cost center manager(s) that will approve deposit transaction.

Course Fee Deposit Procedure

When a course receives course fee revenue, a deposit memo will be completed on the department's behalf. Cost center managers will be sent a copy of the deposit memo each day the course receives revenue. Cost center managers will receive a task in Workday to approve the deposit transaction.
