Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) focuses on addressing the health and welfare, as well as the many ancillary needs of our employees and their loved ones. Personal issues, planning for life events or simply managing daily life can impact work, health and family. This program provides confidential services such as short-term counseling, advice and referrals from licensed professionals at no cost to you.
Who is Eligible to Use the EAP?
- The EAP is available to all active, benefits-eligible employees of the State of Kansas, their family members living in the same household or dependent children.
- All active, benefits-eligible employees of our Non State Employer Groups, their family members living in the same household or dependent children.
- Benefits-eligible employees who have been laid off/terminated are eligible to use the EAP for six months after a layoff.
- Retirees and COBRA participants are not eligible to participate

Back-Up Care and Family Support Programs
KU Medical Center has partnered with Bright Horizons® to help our employees better manage work, family and personal responsibilities. Employees have access to back-up care for your children, adult and elder family members if your regular caregiver is unavailable and discounts on top child care, tutoring, elder care, summer camp and STEM learning providers for your family. The Star Discount Program offers State of Kansas employees an opportunity to take advantage of product and service discounts offered by various vendors throughout the state.
Lactation Support
The University of Kansas Medical Center recognizes the health and emotional advantages of breastfeeding for mothers and infants. The medical center strives to offer support and flexibility to nursing mothers who are faculty, staff, residents, trainees and students to express their breast milk during work hours and on campus, while still allowing them to maintain proper focus on the performance of their duties and/or studies. Please reach out to our Well-being department at well-being@kumc.edu with questions or concerns for lactation support.
Staff Assistance Fund
The Rosalie Lanier Gray KU Staff Assistance Fund exists to provide emergency assistance for KU staff members who are struggling due to a natural or personal disaster that has caused financial hardship.
