Professional Background

Gina Schwarz, OTD, OTR/L, is a clinical assistant professor and academic fieldwork coordinator in the Department of Occupational Therapy Education at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Her teaching experience includes coursework related to fieldwork, mental health practice, and theory to practice in occupational therapy.

Schwarz's occupational therapy focus has been on serving individuals with mental health conditions within community and hospital settings. In addition to serving as a fieldwork educator at Reclamation Clubhouse, a community mental health organization, she also serves as a capstone mentor to students passionate about occupational therapy’s role in mental health.



Schwarz's research interests include non-traditional fieldwork experiences in occupational therapy education, teaching and learning methodology, mental health education and practice, and community participation and health of individuals living with mental health conditions.
