Dr. Gregory F. Muehlebach is Chair of and Professor within the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Kansas. He specializes in all aspects of cardiovascular surgery and is board certified in general and thoracic surgery. Dr. Muehlebach is an integral part of the University of Kansas Health System, serving in multiple leadership positions. As Chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, he has ushered in an era of growth and quality outcomes that have been highlighted both locally and nationally.
As a native of Kansas City, Dr. Muehlebach attended Rockhurst High School. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska for undergraduate studies. He earned his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Upon graduation he completed General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery training at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Muehlebach also completed specialized training at The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio where he had the opportunity to train under some of the leaders in cardiothoracic surgery.
Dr. Muehlebach has authored and coauthored several papers and studies. His articles have been published in leading publications such as the Journal of Heart Lung Transplant, European Heart Journal, Circulation, Annals of Vascular Surgery, and Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Muehlebach is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and Phi Beta Kappa.
