Professional Background

Gregory Maggio, D.O., is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was added to the faculty after finishing his psychiatry residency at KU Medical Center in 2022.

During his four-year residency, Dr. Maggio earned the Excellence in Scholarship Award three times, an honor presented to residents who achieved a top score on the Psychiatry Resident-In-Training Exam (PRITE). He was also a co-author on the project that won the Best Abstract – Fellow category in the KU Medical Center Office of Graduate Medical Education’s Annual Research Forum with the entry, “Assessing Demoralization with the Personality Assessment Inventory: Introducing the PAI-DEM-27.”

Dr. Maggio earned his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He also holds a master’s degree in cell and molecular biology from Tulane University as well as a bachelor’s degree in biology and pre-medicine from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Dr. Maggio’s clinical interests include psychotic disorders, psychosomatic medicine, and forensic psychiatry. His research interests extend to personality disorders, the development of clinical tools and diagnostic nosology.

Dr. Maggio’s professional memberships include the Society for Personality Assessment, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry.
