Professional Background

Gina Hendren, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Kansas Health system in Kansas City, KS. Gina earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine. She completed her medicine internship at the Georgetown University hospital in Washington DC and matriculated to The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City for her Anesthesiology residency training. Gina was Chief resident and then joined the medical staff at The University of Kansas in 2009.

Gina’s professional affiliations include the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Board of Anesthesiology with whom she has been an oral board examiner since 2016, Kansas Society of Anesthesiologist (treasurer 2016-2018), and Society of Academic Anesthesiologist and Perioperative Medicine. Gina has been a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee at KU serving on several committees. In addition Gina has been active in departmental leadership serving on operations and executive committees.

Gina has been active in the education program at the University of Kansas Medical school since coming on staff at KU. She oversaw the medical student anesthesia rotation and help create the Anesthesia Student Interest Group (ASIG). She moved to associate program director in 2014 and assume the role of Anesthesiology Program Director in 2015. KU’s residency program has continued its reputation for innovation and excellence and over the past few years have added 3 accredited fellowships (Pain, Pediatrics and ICU) as well as developed non accredited fellowships in regional anesthesia, liver transplant and neuro anesthesia. She has recently been appointed as the vice chair for education for the department of anesthesia

In addition to education Gina’s clinical interest include anesthesia care for burn patients, perioperative use of cardiopulmonary exercise testing for surgical readiness assessment and operating room efficiencies.

Outside of work Dr. Hendren is the proud mom to 3 kids and spends way too much of her weekend time taking her kids to different sporting events.
