Professional Background

Dr. German Berbel, DO, FACOS, is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the General and Pediatric Surgery Division at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Berbel was born in Barcelona, Spain, and ended up in Houston, Texas, in July of 1980. After completing high school, he attended Baylor University, where he obtained his degree in Chemistry. He then completed medical school and residency training at The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). After completing his residency in General Surgery in 1998, he went into private practice. Two years later, he joined the faculty at UNTHSC in Fort Worth, Texas.
In 2013, Dr. Berbel joined the KUMC family after working with the Memorial Hermann Medical Group in Houston, Texas. Having been in both academic and private settings, Dr. Berbel prefers teaching and being part of the academic endeavors at KUMC while retaining a close connection and interaction with his patients. Dr. Berbel's clinical interests include advanced laparoscopy and complex hernias, as well as the ability to provide general surgical services to his patients.
