Professional Background

Gloria Lopez-Cardenas, M.D., joined the Department of Neurology at KU Medical Center as an assistant professor in 2024. She completed a neurology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where she also completed a vascular neurology fellowship. She has served as an associate physician of the Neurointerventional Radiology Department at the Hospital Universitario Clinica San Rafael in Bogota, Colombia, and was an emergency room observer at Baptist Health South Florida in Miami, Florida. As a physician in Colombia, Dr. Lopez-Cardenas also volunteered her services to the Global Medicine Foundation, providing medical humanitarian care for children and adults.
Dr. Lopez-Cardenas' clinical interests include vascular neurology and neurointerventional radiology.

Overview

Dr. Lopez-Cardenas' research interests include interventional neurology and endovascular treatment. She has co-authored research articles on staged bilateral internal carotid artery aneurysm treatment and implementing drug-eluting stents for endovascular treatment of ostial vertebral artery stenosis.
