Dr. Faith M. Butler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she serves on the Clinical Scholar Track. Board-certified in Family Medicine with a fellowship in Obstetrics, Dr. Butler specializes in maternal health, women's health, and medical education, with particular expertise in high-risk obstetrics, reproductive health, and care for LGBTQ+ and underserved populations.
A dedicated clinician-educator, Dr. Butler has developed and led numerous educational initiatives at the undergraduate, graduate, and faculty levels. She is the Director of Maternity Care for Family Medicine, Medical Director of the Maternal Options that Matter Prenatal Outreach Clinic, and core faculty in the Family Medicine Residency Program. Her teaching roles span small-group facilitation, didactic lectures, clinical coaching, and simulation-based training, particularly in obstetrics and reproductive care.
Dr. Butler is also the first physician co-director of a basic science block (Reproduction, Development, and Sexuality) in the KU School of Medicine curriculum, reflecting her commitment to bridging clinical and foundational science education. She has been recognized with numerous awards for her teaching, advising, and mentorship, including the Rolfe A. Becker Mentoring Award, the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians Exemplary Teaching Award, and the Ruth Bohan Teaching Professorship Award.
An active member of several professional organizations, including AAFP, ACOG, and WPATH, Dr. Butler also contributes to national education and research efforts on perinatal behavioral health and substance use in pregnancy. Her leadership in curriculum design, faculty development, and community engagement underscores her ongoing contributions to academic family medicine and women’s health.
