The National Institutes of Health (NIH) maintains a searchable repository of NIH-funded research projects at NIH RePORT and freezes a snapshot of awards by location for each fiscal year, typically in December. An independent organization, the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR), summarizes this data and produces rankings for medical and other health professional schools, after allowing institutions a review period to make sure attributes of the award data reflect the institution’s characterization of these projects.
